Marriage Intentions

Yarmouth Town Seal ImageThe couple must appear in person in the Town Clerk’s Office to fill out the necessary paperwork to apply for a Marriage License by 4pm. It takes 25 minutes to complete the necessary paperwork.

Marriage intentions are done by appointment only.  Appointments are between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM and 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM Monday – Friday.  An appointment can be arranged by emailing clerks@yarmouth.ma.us or by coming into Town Hall to sign up for an open appointment between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.  The Town prefers to do this for Town of Yarmouth residents only.

The following questions will help you prepare for filling out your Marriage Intention:

  1. What surname will you be using after you are married?
  2. What are your parent’s full names (first, middle, last and maiden)?
  3. What is the city or town of your parent’s birth?
  4. Where were you born?

You do not need any identification unless you look very young. Then we would need to see a picture id proving you are eighteen (18) years or older.

Blood tests are no longer required. After completing the Marriage Intention paperwork, there is a three (3) day waiting period before your Marriage License is available to be picked up.

You must use the Marriage License within 60 days before it becomes null and void.
