The couple must appear in person in the Town Clerk’s Office to fill out the necessary paperwork to apply for a Marriage License by 4pm. It takes 25 minutes to complete the necessary paperwork.
Marriage intentions are done by appointment only. Appointments are between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM and 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM Monday – Friday. An appointment can be arranged by emailing clerks@yarmouth.ma.us or by coming into Town Hall to sign up for an open appointment between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The Town prefers to do this for Town of Yarmouth residents only.
The following questions will help you prepare for filling out your Marriage Intention:
- What surname will you be using after you are married?
- What are your parent’s full names (first, middle, last and maiden)?
- What is the city or town of your parent’s birth?
- Where were you born?
You do not need any identification unless you look very young. Then we would need to see a picture id proving you are eighteen (18) years or older.
Blood tests are no longer required. After completing the Marriage Intention paperwork, there is a three (3) day waiting period before your Marriage License is available to be picked up.
You must use the Marriage License within 60 days before it becomes null and void.
