Streetlight Information
Two Yarmouth citizens worked throughout the Town inventorying street lights and comparing where street lights are located to the street light location policy, which has been in effect since 1990. Street lights are currently authorized at the intersection of streets, at a location where inclines or declines in the road would cause a safety problem and finally at specific locations identified by public safety departments as a hazard area. The process for the lights to be turned off will be to remove the photocell and the light fixture will remain but be inoperable. Those lights which do not comply with the current standards or are unsuccessfully appealed will be turned off beginning on Monday November 2, 2009. Citizens may donate $80/pole/year to keep a light turned on which is scheduled to be turned off. Please contact the DPW department at Town Hall, 508-398-2231 ext. 1290 for more information on how to make a donation.
