Home Safety Training for Caregivers of People with Alzheimer's and Dementia

This free course will provide the basics of home safety for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's or dementia related illness. The course will include a brief overview of the stages of cognitive disease, and specific instructions for how to avoid injury and harm at all stages of the disease progression. Information will be tailored to meet the specific caregiving needs of each class participant, with much attention given to answering questions, problem solving, and strategizing. This session will be facilitated by Fran Lavin, RN, Dementia Specialist Fran has been working in the dementia care field on Cape Cod for more than 30 years. Ms. Lavin created the first long-term and assisted living dementia specific units on Cape Cod and continues to work one-on-one with families navigating the complex world of dementia related illness. "Quilling" Art Class

Join us in welcoming Mary Jane Xenakis, President of the Yarmouth Art Guild to lead us with instruction on the ancient art of Quilling, also known as paper filigree, using narrow strips of paper which are rolled, shaped, and then glued together to form designs. The name "quilling" is thought to have originated from early practitioners of the art who use feathers or "quills" on which to roll their papers. Today, quillers are active all over the world, employing their art form to embellish everything from photo frames, invitations and small storage boxes to scrap books pages and greeting cards. This is a basic quilling curled paper art class with all materials provided in a kit to design your own greeting card. Cost $15.00 per person with pre-registration required. Learn how to create a "Memory Collage" by creating an 8"x10" collage of a loved one past or present, pet, a special event, or a special memory, vacation or holiday to frame and keep for self or for someone else. Copies can be made and shared with family members. We will be using paint and paper, your personal photos and magazine images. Please bring personal photos of your loved one or copies of the photos, embellishments that will enhance your collage such as buttons, bows, tickets, invitations, etc... After we create our collage, we will ask one question and receive guidance from the card we create. All materials included. Pre-registration is required.
