From the DirectorJune 1, 2020
To our Yarmouth Town Libraries many friends,
Thank you so much for your support during this interesting and challenging time. We have enjoyed connecting with many of you virtually over the past two and a half months and we are looking forward to getting library materials back into your hands soon.
We are finalizing a phased reopening plan based on the guidelines from the Reopening Advisory Board created by Governor Baker, as well as recommendations from the Town’s Health Department and State library organizations. Our goal is to fully restore library services over the next several months, while continuing to prioritize the health and well-being of library visitors and staff. We hope to see staff return to work at each library (they have been teleworking and coming in in rotating shifts) in the next few days and will continue preparing the building and our collections for a safe reopening. We plan to begin offering contact-free holds pickup to you in mid-June. If you have holds that have been here since our mid-March closure to the public, you will get a call from us to arrange a time for you to pick up materials at each location.
Statewide interlibrary loan delivery should be resuming in the next couple of weeks, but, as you can imagine, there is a large backup in materials that are “in transit” – that have been sitting in bins for several weeks around the Commonwealth. We will do our best to process all of these items once delivery resumes.
We’d prefer that you keep your library materials at home still, but we will receive them in our outside book drops if you wish to drop them off. Due dates for items currently checked out are extended until June 30, so there is no rush to bring your returns back. Fines are not accruing. The South Yarmouth and West Yarmouth Library Associations are unable to accept book donations at this time, and we appreciate your patience.
Please contact me at jcain@clamsnet.org with any questions or comments. Stay well! - Jane Cain Library Director

A Message from Youth ServicesAs we have been navigating our new lifestyle, we have offered a Virtual Trivia Challenge, Super Science Tuesdays on Facebook Live, and Adventures in Storytime on Thursdays on the Zoom platform. We’re learning as we go! Attendance has been steadily growing as the word spreads throughout our community. As much as we would love to see you all in person, that will have to wait for the foreseeable future. Our services and resources are available nonetheless. We will continue offering additional online features for June, July and August. We will promote our Summer Reading program through the schools, social media, the library’s website and word-of-mouth. This year’s theme is “Imagine Your Story”. There are plenty of stories to share this summer! We all look forward to hearing about your adventures in reading and summer fun while being apart.
Many of the activities we now have planned will incorporate as many interactive features as possible: scavenger hunts, storytelling, a bike parade, talent shows, ChalkWalks, StoryWalks®, take-and-make crafts, Bingo, journaling and more! Stay tuned for dates and times.
Registration for “Imagine Your Story” begins Monday, June 15. We won’t need a tent this year for our Kick-off event, but we will celebrate together!
Storybook Bingo! Saturday, June 27 Time and registration to the online platform will be posted on the Library Calendar of Events at www.yarmouthlibraries.org. Arrangements are in progress to get information packets out to Yarmouth Families. We are thinking of you! There will be opportunities to win prizes, but it will be a bit different this year. Many of our local businesses that have reliably donated prizes in past years may be stretched a bit thin. We hope that our Library users will support our local businesses when it is safe to do so. Gratitude for generosity is important, especially under the current circumstances. Thank you for your patience as we process new ways to keep in touch and meet your reading and learning needs. As always, we love to hear your ideas and we value your feedback. Please let us know your needs and we will do our best to find the resources. Call or text the Youth Services Hotline 774-209-2958.
“Imagine your Story” is sponsored by the Yarmouth Town Libraries, South Yarmouth and West Yarmouth Library Associations, Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Red is an oak tree who is many rings old. Red is the neighborhood "wishtree" where people write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them to Red's branches. Along with a crow named Bongo and other animals who seek refuge in Red's hollows, this wishtree watches over the neighborhood. https://www.wishtreebook.com/
