From the DirectorI have always loved the heat and sunshine of August. It is even better to enjoy it on the Cape. We are looking forward to more Summer Reading fun for all ages – you can read the details below – and a personal highlight is a visit from Eric Jay Dolin, an award-winning historian and writer, on August 11. We will be hosting this event at the Yarmouth Senior Center, since we expect it to be popular with residents and visitors to Cape Cod, and there’s more room there. Tell all your friends and neighbors. We also will be saying farewell to our Youth Services Librarian, Ms. Connie Marr, who will be retiring in the middle of the month. It is hard to believe how time flies. -Jane Cain Library Director

Book Discussion: Chances Are by Richard RussoWednesday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m. South Yarmouth Library Gazebo An excellent tale, told by a popular author –the story of three old college buddies who reunite decades after their graduation and discuss the mystery of what happened to the young woman they all seemed to have fallen in love with way back when. She disappeared just before her wedding, and they were the last people she spent time with before going missing. The reunion on Martha’s Vineyard gives each the chance to relive his youth and continue pondering the girl’s disappearance, while they enjoy another summer visit to the Island. Sue Loveland, of the Library Board, will guide this discussion. Books are available at each town library and on Libby for downloading. If the weather is bad, the book discussion will take place in the Leonard meeting room at the South Yarmouth Library.

Puzzles to Borrow!Check them out. We are now making an assortment of jigsaw puzzles available for you to borrow. They go out just like our books, for 2 weeks, and will automatically renew, if no one has put a hold on them. They won’t go out of town for delivery, but you can pick them up here and must return them to either the South Yarmouth or West Yarmouth libraries. The collection has developed from donations from some very generous and regular puzzle-makers in our community. Let us know what you think!

The Library Planning Committee Seeks New Members The Library Planning Committee (LPC) is looking for new members. The group typically meets on a Tuesday evening each month, over Zoom, starting at 5:30 p.m. We are currently working on a Request for Proposals (RFP) with our Town Administration, for consultation on community input sessions, surveying and garnering additional information from the public regarding what is important to you about the library – what you wish for, and how we can satisfy community needs and wants in your library: good information sharing, community gatherings, reading, learning and growing strong together. If you are interested in the LPC, please stop by and visit Library Director Jane Cain at the South Yarmouth Library, or call her: 508-760-4820, ext. 1312.
