From the Director:Well, for those of you who are regular library users, you are well aware of the change in our CLAMS interface and catalog that happened at the end of February. I have nothing but praise and great respect for our library staff who have had to dive right in and learn a fairly complex operating system all over again, along with a new catalog search experience. You may also realize that many of our staff members are part-time employees and are not here every day – so the learning curve is especially sharp. Most everyone has taken the changes in stride – and I am awed by how many data points there are in the management of information and people’s interaction with that information. It has to be why this job is so much fun! Oh, and the people you meet along the way. Happy Spring, everyone. -Jane Cain Library Director

Library Planning Committee Updates In early February, a long-awaited new grant round from the Massachusetts Board or Library Commissioners (MBLC) was announced. These grants can fund a significant portion of library renovation or construction projects. A Letter of Intent from the Town of Yarmouth and Library officials is due at the end of April – but, the actual grant application is not due until May of 2024, with awards to be announced in the fall of 2024. The Library Planning Committee worked with Town Procurement on a Request for Proposals that has been posted by the Town for a consultant who can assist with the Community Needs Assessment phase of planning over the next several months. Watch for more information on focus groups, listening sessions, surveys – and more – as we plan for improving our library space for the greater good and for a more promising future. Please plan to get involved and let your voice be heard! In the meanwhile, reach out to Library Director Jane Cain, and see more on the Library website.
