From the DirectorHappy July and happy summer, all! My favorite month of the year, despite the challenges of dotting all our i’s and crossing all our t’s at the end of each fiscal year here in library land. I applaud my determined staff who are working hard on getting everything financially wrapped up as June comes to an end and July is here. We had a very successful Strategic Planning idea-sharing session on Thursday evening, June 8, and I thank all who were able to join us to participate. We gained a lot of insight and can clearly see what our priorities might be. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have ideas on what’s missing or what needs to change at the Library and how best we can serve the community. Stay tuned for more details before we submit a 5-year Plan to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners in mid-October. -Jane Cain Library Director

Teen Staff Pick A Scatter of Light by Malinda LoAria Tang West was looking forward to a summer on Martha's Vineyard with her best friends—one last round of sand and sun before college. But after a graduation party goes wrong, Aria's parents exile her to California to stay with her grandmother, artist Joan West. Aria expects boredom, but what she finds is Steph Nichols, her grandmother's gardener.
