A classic World War II story about children evacuated from London to Wales. Carrie and her younger brother Nick are evacuated to spend the war years with the dour Mr. Evans and his sister 'Auntie' Lou.

Discussion Group: Poetry & Literature

Wednesday, March 29, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Explore some of the poetry and literature that the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society enjoy, with the guidance of English Professor Meg Clark. Funding for refreshments and supplies related to the Yarmouth Reads 2017 programs provided by the South Yarmouth and West Yarmouth Library Associations, to whom we owe much gratitude.

Sock Drive for YARMOUTH READS

As part of our YARMOUTH READS 2017 we are coordinating a sock drive. Bring in a new pair of socks – any size – to either the South Yarmouth Library or West Yarmouth Library and a volunteer will distribute them as needed. A great community project!

Listen to some of the greatest stories by Susan Orleans, Kate Chopin, and Guy de Maupassant read to you by local actors Bonnie Thorpe, Cathy Ode, and Toby Wilson -- in front of the fireplace at the West Yarmouth Library. Refreshments will be served courtesy of the West Yarmouth Library Association. This program is free to the public. Doors open at 2:00.

Save the Date: YARMOUTH READS 2017 Wrap-Up

Mark your calendars now, for the wrap-up and community discussion to be held at the Lorusso Lodge at Flax Pond, off Whites Path in South Yarmouth on Sunday afternoon, April 30. We’ll talk about war rations, the food that might have been available to the island captives, and just how many varieties of potato pie there are in the world…there will be a buffet, with a sampling of delicious pork and other “picnic” foods. The cost for the buffet is $5, with proceeds going to help defray expenses of the variety of YARMOUTH READS programs in 2017. Register at the Library’s website, at the Calendar of Events.

CS Scholarship

Cecelia Siemen Scholarship in the Visual Arts

The South Yarmouth Library Association offers a $3,000 Cecelia Siemen Scholarship in the Visual Arts every year, advancing study in the visual arts. Applicants must have completed one academic year at a college or art institute by the end of this school year. 

Applications are available now from the South Yarmouth Library or from the Library’s website www.yarmouthlibraries.org.
Applications to the South Yarmouth Library Association are due April 30, 2017.
