YARMOUTH READS 2017 Wrap Up

At the wrap up and community discussion to be held at the Lorusso Lodge at Flax Pond, off Whites Path
in South Yarmouth on Sunday afternoon, April 30, we will talk about war rations, the food that might have been available to the island captives, and just how many varieties of potato pie there are in the world. There will be a buffet sampling of delicious pork and other "picnic" foods. The cost for the buffet is $5 in advance, $10 at the door with proceeds helping to defray expenses of the variety of YARMOUTH READS programs in 2017. Register at the Library’s website, in the Library Events section.

Community Clean Up

Yarmouth’s Annual Community Cleanup Day - what better way to show how much we care about our town than by making Yarmouth look great! Meet at the Yarmouth Town Hall at 9 a.m for route assignment. Wear comfortable footwear and clothing. Bring gloves if you have them. We will provide the supplies. Then, join us for a free
appreciation lunch following the cleanup. Call the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce at (508) 778-1008 for more information.

is the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, teachers, librarians, booksellers, publishers, bloggers, and, of course, poets marking poetry’s important place in our culture and our lives. There are many ways to participate.Stop by the South Yarmouth Library to make a poetry collage! Supplies and materials will be available in the Children’s and the Teen Rooms throughout the month. Funding for the databases is provided by the
Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC), Massachusetts Library System (MLS) and the Yarmouth Town Library.

Meet Melissa!

On Monday, March 13, we welcomed Melissa Cabral, as Assistant Youth Services Librarian here in Yarmouth. A former developmental specialist for Early Intervention, Melissa brings valuable skills and resources to the position. Melissa graduated from the University of Vermont, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and Communication Sciences. In addition, she is a certified yoga teacher, and certified educator of infant massage. Her new role focuses on outreach, story times, and innovative programming. When you are at the library, be sure to stop in and welcome her to our community.

2017 Cecelia Siemen Scholarship Applications

Deadline April 30
The South Yarmouth Library Association offers a $3,000 Cecelia Siemen Scholarship in the Visual Arts to advance the study and knowledge of someone in the visual arts. Applicants must have completed one academic year at a college or art institute by the end of the school year in which the scholarship is offered. Applications require the completed form, course work transcripts, three (3) letters of recommendation, a portfolio, and personal statement.
