Recommendation Made to the Finance Committee and the Board of Selectmen by the Library Study Ad Hoc Committee in JanuaryA large group of library supporters turned out to hear the recommendation to the Yarmouth Board of Selectmen by the Library Study Committee that, since 2015, has been studying local, regional and national data, as well as previous needs and facilities assessment reports. After consultation with Johnson Roberts Associates of Somerville, MA, the group decided unanimously to recommend,
“… that we accept the facts presented that the Town of Yarmouth needs to move forward in an effort to increase its library capacity and centralize its service location to maximize resources and respond to the deficiencies identified in our report.”
Both the Finance Committee and the Board of Selectmen offered questions and discussion, and ultimately, supported the recommendation of the group. The next step for the community leaders is to develop informational opportunities and further exploration of the issues, to garner community consensus on how best to proceed.
There is support for the establishment of a new volunteer planning committee with a new charge to continue the project.
