From the Director:A lovely hot summer on Cape Cod. The libraries have been busy and mostly cool, with tons of Summer Reading programs for children and teens, lots of vacationing visitors and many new card holders. It is the season of annual reporting to the State on library visits, collection size, number of programs and more…so data is top of mind for us in the summer! Our thanks to everyone for your patience and helpful support after last week's storm. - Jane Cain Library Director

South Yarmouth Library Book Discussion Group 84 Charing Cross Road, by Helene Hanff Tuesday, August 27, 3:00 p.m. South Yarmouth Library Join us to discuss this charming classic, first published in 1970, reflecting twenty years of correspondence between Helene Hanff, a freelance writer living in New York City, and a used-book dealer, Frank Doel, in London. Though never meeting and separated both geographically and culturally, they share a winsome, sentimental friendship based on their common love for books. A book lover’s delightful read. The book was transformed into a Broadway play and then a movie starring Anthony Hopkins and Ann Bancroft, in the 1980s. Copies of the book are at the South Yarmouth Library for borrowing. Future meeting dates: September 24, October 22 and November 19.

PlayawaysAre you an audiobook fan and used to having a good book on CD in the car? Have you noticed that newer model cars no longer have a CD drive? If you love to listen to good books while you drive, we have a solution for that…Playaways are pre-recorded books on a portable device that is easy to carry – and can be heard through a set of headphones to enjoy. But, with an auxiliary cable (an “aux” cable, as most techies call it), you can plug in to your car’s USB port and the sound comes through your car speakers. We have selected a number of popular titles in Playaway format and encourage you to check them out.
