A new season of autumn on Cape Cod and new ways to discover its natural beauty. This month, we are featuring two authors on the topic of outdoor adventure in New England. And there are lots of activities and learning opportunities for children of all ages. Happy October, everyone!

West Yarmouth Library closed the week of October 21

West Yarmouth Library will be closed the week of Monday, October 21, through October 25, for new carpet installation, and will re-open on Monday, October 28, at 11:00 a.m. The South Yarmouth Library will be open the week of October 21, Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and open during our regular hours on Friday through Sunday. Teen Café: Ideas and Ice Cream

Saturday, October 5, 1:30-3:00 p.m.

For grades 7 and up. Our new teen group is forming to chat about ideas for making the Library a place to connect with friends, technology and community. Join us for fun, snacks and conversation. All teens are welcome! Registration is not required.

Sewing Club

Wednesday, October 9, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
South Yarmouth Library
For grades 5-8. This new hands-on skill building series will be offered on the second Wednesday of the month. Learn classic hand sewing techniques to create projects for fun or to give as gifts. This month we will make Frankenstein creatures. The Library provides all the materials. Bring a friend! Registration is recommended.

International Day of the Girl

For grades 5-8. Cape Cod Regional Tech Cosmetology Department will be offering a workshop that will teach young women braiding, paraffin treatments and manicure techniques, followed by a Q&A session. Registration is strongly recommended.

For all ages. Children under 8 need to bring an adult. The Library provides all the Lego®s. Bring your creativity and a friend! Registration is not required.

Playing on Purpose:
Integrated Parent-Child Sessions
5 week program.

Starting Friday, October 18, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
South Yarmouth Library

Parent Workshop: Introduction session and interactive workshop for all caregivers. Join us as we discuss strategies to make playtime more purposeful for you and your child. Some of the topics to be be discussed:

  • Your child’s social & emotional development.
  • How to strengthen your relationship with your child.

Other P.O.P. sessions are October 25, November 1, November 8 and November 15.

The South Yarmouth Library Association presents a return visit by Alison O’Leary, who will discuss her book on “great escapes” in New England. Learn about the many eastern Massachusetts locations for great hikes – including Cape Cod – from Travel and Leisure writer Madeline Bilis. Written for all skill and experience levels, you will find inspiration for hiking in our great state. Refreshments will be available. Funded by the South Yarmouth Library Association.

Take The Internet With You

The Yarmouth Town Libraries now offer wi-fi hotspots for patrons to borrow! Take the internet with you wherever you go, cut down on data charges on your cell phone, and keep your life up and running during a power outage. Wi-fi hotspots are available to all adults with a library card in good standing and can be kept for up to one week. This service is possible thanks to funding from the South Yarmouth Library Association.
